2022-2023 was a momentous year as we proudly celebrated the 30th anniversary of Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPC). Since its inception in 1992, LPC has been a beacon of educational excellence, nurturing the growth and development of a diverse community of students. As we reflect on this remarkable journey, we take immense pride in the fact that LPC has become a global hub, educating 3,778 students from Hong Kong and 147 different nationalities. Each of these individuals has contributed to the vibrant tapestry of our legendary college, bringing unique perspectives and experiences that have enriched our community.
Student diversity lies at the heart of LPC. Our transformative educational program has prioritized global consciousness as a gateway into understanding our ever-evolving world. The challenges facing our planet will require the same global mindedness that LPC has championed throughout its history. Both investment and involvement, together, will help shape the next 30 years for LPC – and the rest of the world.
We are delighted to share the exciting news about the launch of LPC's new fundraising campaign, titled "Vision 2052: Together Shaping the Next 30 Years of LPC." This transformative initiative aims to shape the future of our institution and empower generations of students to come. We wholeheartedly invite you to join us and become an integral part of this remarkable endeavour. Your support and participation will play a pivotal role in ensuring that LPC continues to thrive and provide life-changing opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. Together, let us forge a path of excellence, innovation, and global impact for the next three decades and beyond.
The investments will serve as a cornerstone in enhancing our capacity to deliver an even more robust academic program—one that not only fosters academic excellence but also equips our students with the tools and knowledge to address the urgent challenges faced by our local and global communities. It is through these strategic investments that we will continue to nurture a learning environment that empowers our students to become compassionate, innovative, and socially responsible leaders of tomorrow.
The campaign will be driven by the joint efforts of LPC and its Board of Governors, UWC Graduates Organization (UWCGO) and UWC Hong Kong Committee (UWCHK), for the common goal of ensuring that the mission of LPC and UWC lives on in Hong Kong.
Why does the school need a fundraising campaign now?
In our pursuit to become a model for education worldwide and a living laboratory, LPC has identified substantial financial needs. To achieve these ambitious goals, our projected target is to secure HK$8 million per annum or more. This campaign has been strategically designed to prioritise and address three key areas:
Increasing scholarships to maintain student diversity – demand for full scholarships by both overseas and local scholars has increased, mainly due to demographic changes.
Sustaining Infrastructure and Facilities - to provide an optimal learning environment, we recognize the importance of upgrading and maintaining our infrastructure and facilities. By investing in state-of-the-art facilities, we ensure that our students have access to the necessary tools and spaces to thrive and explore their passions.
Enriching Educational Experience – the college is undertaking new initiatives to enrich the learning experience and enhance the quality of teaching for our students. We aim to invest in cutting-edge resources, innovative teaching methodologies, and educational technologies that empower our students to excel academically and develop essential skills for the future. These open up a whole new horizon for forging new partnerships, expanding the scope for Project Week, and internships.
What will be the use of proceeds?
By raising HK$8 million for the College in the next 12 months, we can increase our impact by having:
20 local and overseas scholarships for talents from diverse backgrounds
Renovation of the residential quarters
Technological infrastructure upgrades to bring our students up to speed in the technology revolution
Harking back to the early days when LPC was cutting edge in its vision, donors and alumni would ask if LPC has retained its unmistakable uniqueness in deliberate diversity in studentship and academic prowess. For certain, LPC’s distinctive DNA of student diversity and excellence continues to thrive.
Today, LPC continues to stand for community diversity. Currently, there are 257 students of 94 nationalities on campus, speaking 200+ languages. Unlike any other ordinary international schools, LPC is truly international. LPC takes great pride in its diverse and dedicated faculty. With 29 teachers representing 12 nationalities, our teaching staff is a true reflection of the international community we foster. It is noteworthy that all our teachers reside on campus, creating a supportive and immersive environment for our students.
Today, LPC continues to excel in academics and top university placements. Not only is the students’ average IB score in the top tier of UWCs but also worldwide. LPC continues its legacy of sending graduates to the world’s most exclusive universities, including the Ivy League in the US and most prestigious universities in the UK.
Today, LPC continues to instill in students a sense of global citizenship, compassion and service, international and intercultural understanding, and respect for the environment. Our alumni – young and old – have become champions for sustainable, inclusive and equitable development in their respective fields. At LPC, one of our core priorities is to foster a diverse community by attracting talented individuals from all corners of the globe to Hong Kong. We firmly believe that in this era of global confrontation and polarization, it is essential to build relationships, promote goodwill, and bridge divides through international collaboration and understanding. By assembling a diverse range of talents, we strive to create an inclusive environment where students can develop a global perspective and contribute to a more harmonious and interconnected world.
